• 1881 England Census: at 27 Cambridge Terrace, St. John's, Paddington. Described as the son of the head of household, aged 25, a dressing case maker, born in Southwold, Suffolk. Also present:
  Rhoda Lawrence, head of household, widow, aged 60?, lodging house keeper, born at Westhall, Suffolk;
  Alice Bertram, daughter, unmarried, 29, no occupation given, born at Southwold, Suffold.
• 1891 England Census: A Charles A. Bertram is a boarder at 10 Charlwood Road, in the parish of St. George's, Hanover Square, London, described as a widower (was there an entry for divorced people?), aged 38, jeweller's assistant, born in Southwold, Suffolk.

I have not so far found him in earlier census results.

• Father: George TEMPLEMAN (dates not known, but he was dead before Sep 1882 according to the entry in the marriage register for Rose Emily).
• Mother: not known.
• Notes: On 21 Mar 1890 Charles Anthony Bertram filed for divorce on the grounds of his wife's adultery. The decree nisi was issued on 25 Jul 1890 and the final decree on 16 Apr 1891, apparently with the note that the decree not be made absolute until provision had been made for his wife.
